Beethoven is a 1992 American family comedy film. It stars Charles Grodin as George Newton dealing with the family's new pet, a St. Bernard, called Beethoven, who begrudgingly agrees to adopt. It also stars Bonnie Hunt, Nicholle Tom, Christopher Castile, Sarah Rose Karr, Dean Jones, Oliver Platt, and Stanley Tucci. It was written by John Hughes (under the pseudonym of Edmond Dantes) and Amy Holden Jones, and directed by Briant Levant.

Beethoven gained a sequel the next year, and several more to follow, as well as a short-lived animated series, which aired on CBS. Only Beethoven and Beethoven's 2nd were released theatrically, though.
